Twilight is bewitching and enchanting, but the gloaming is soothing and secure, a time out of time when the day’s worries and stresses fade away. The gloaming delights me and never more than when I’m in a city. The contrast between the clamour of life going on around me and my own personal bubble of serenity is a wonderful thing.
Last month I was in Edinburgh for a few days and, as it happened, I was out as the gloaming descended on a number of afternoons. The weather was remarkably kind and I was able to soak in the atmosphere without being battered by rain or wind. Those moments were magical and refreshing.
